How do I add a book?

Tap the + button in your Library. You can scan the barcode on the back of any book, search by title or author, or enter details manually. Cover images and metadata fetch automatically via Open Library.

How does Live Text capture work?

When creating a note, select the camera capture mode and point your iPhone at any page. iOS Live Text will let you select the text directly from the image. Tap to confirm and your quote drops into the note form — no typing required. Requires iOS 16 or later.

How do I unlock unlimited books?

Tap Settings and select Unlock Marginalis. A one-time purchase of $4.99 (launch price $2.99) removes the 5-book limit and unlocks Markdown export and full reading stats. No subscription, ever.

Is my data safe if I change phones?

Yes. If iCloud sync is enabled, your entire library and notes are backed up to your iCloud account and will restore automatically on a new device. You can enable iCloud sync in Settings.

How does iCloud sync work?

Marginalis uses iCloud to sync your library and notes privately across your iPhone and iPad. No Marginalis account is required — it uses your existing Apple ID. Enable it in Settings → iCloud Sync.

What is AI Book Summary and why don't I see it?

AI Book Summary generates an intelligent summary of your notes for any book, powered entirely on-device by Apple Intelligence. It requires iOS 18 or later with Apple Intelligence enabled on a supported device. The feature is automatically hidden on unsupported devices.

How do I export my notes?

Open any book, tap the ··· menu in the top right, and select Export Notes. Your notes export as a Markdown file you can share to any app. Available with Marginalis Unlock.

How do I use the Home Screen widget?

Long press your iPhone Home Screen, tap the + button, search for Marginalis, and add the widget. It displays a random quote from your library, refreshed daily.
